This app is designed to be used following the Sounds Have Letters 1 & 2 apps. The first two apps include most of the vowel teams that consist of two consecutive vowels. This app first teaches that ee is a team that spells the sound /ee/, followed by practice reading words with this team. Next the child chooses between e and ee in the middle of consonant-vowel sound-consonant words. Although the letter e alone can spell the sound /ee/ under certain circumstances, it can not spell the sound ee alone in consonant-vowel-consonant words. Next the child learns that the team oe is a way to spell the sound /oe/ when these letters are next to each other, followed by reading a few words with this team. Next, children choose between ee and oe as the missing sound in words. The next step helps children understand that vowel-e teams can still be a team when there is a single consonant in between them, like in “home” and “joke”. After choosing the code that can spell the missing sound in some words, children read words with this split o-e team. In the following lesson, children learn that the team ee is also split in a small group of words (like in “these” and “here”). This app also teaches the six short words in which the letter e at the end spells the sound /ee/ (he be me we she the), and about the letter o at the end of words as the sound /oe/ (go no so) and in a few high-frequency words as /oo/ (to do into). Children also learn about and read some high-frequency words in which the split o-e team spells the sound /u/ (some come none done love) and in which the letter o alone spells the sound /u/ (son from front other). At the end, children practice reading true sight words with the spellings included in this app, such as "who", "one", "gone", and "been".
